BRIGHTWATER

BRIGHTWATER by Jon Pope
Based on the life and writings of one of the most extraordinary Scots of recent times, the naturalist and explorer, Gavin Maxwell: social renegade, basking shark hunter, racing driver, wartime secret agent and poet – and one of the most popular authors of wildlife books this century. In Ring of Bright Water (1959), his depiction of the West Highlands captivated the world, but his success came, eventually, to haunt him. Now it’s time for a new generation to discover him and his work, which epitomises a wide range of ecological, bio diversity, sustainable development and conservation issues. Maxwell’s constant battle with the elements, and the wildlife – including the otters – contrast with the idealised picture that the film drew. Together with his failed relationships, lack of money and the eventual destruction of his “absolute paradise”, it makes a fascinating tale.
OLD HERBACEOUS
by Reginald Arkell, adapted by Alfred Shaughnessy
It's not often that you find a play which gives you gardening tips and cookery suggestions! This one-man show about Bert, the head gardener at a country house, has entranced audiences all around the country. It was a much-loved part of Mull Little Theatre’s summer seasons in 1985 and 1987, and we welcome its return for the final year at the old theatre.
As Bert potters around his plant pots and gardening tools, he relates tales of his life as a gardener, completely drawing us in to his special world and treating us as garden party guests who are nosing in on his greenhouse.
This new production will feature the same actor who appeared in the 80s, Robert Paterson, now much more of a hardy perennial and just the right age for his role as the elderly gardener!

KATIE MORAG
by Lisa Grindall
Based on the stories by Mairi Hedderwick
Travel on the ferry to Struay to meet one of the best-loved characters in children’s books – Katie Morag McColl. She may live on a tiny weather-beaten island, but there’s plenty of mischief to get up to, and Katie Morag is always up to something!

SWINDLE AND DEATH
Swindle and Death are an old fashioned family theatre ensemble, now somewhat reduced, but still persisting in their classical and populist fare, touring Shakespeare and popular Melodrama "entertaining Scotland since 1707". However, all is not as it seems... A new play from Peter Arnott, specially commissioned by Mull Theatre

ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ACCORDIONIST by Euan Martin and Dave Smith

A comedy drama, set in the fictitious Highland village of Glengirnie at its grand fund – raising ceilidh. This interactive, murder mystery comedy, where the audience is involved in the action, promises to be a truly memorable experience. Folk are invited to take their partners for the first dance and join in the craic. Master of Ceremonies for the evening John Angus will no doubt have loosened up his vocal chords with a couple of drams, Aly the accordionist and his Tour-A-Rural Ceilidh Band have promised not to be late, the bar will be well stocked and Jean from the tourist office says she's even sold a ticket to the Laird. But behind the scenes, there's trouble brewin' because just below the surface of this Highland idyll lurks deceit, jealousy and bloody revenge!
